When I was in jr high one of the best parts of the parade was selling balloons. Everyone met under the town clock signed in and got their balloons. We walked the street selling them for whatever charity was picked that year. There was vendors selling chili dogs, hot cider and there was booths for face painting and so much stuff to keep people in town all day. It was always so much fun. Kids decorated their bikes or whatever they could find. We would hit downtown after lunch and have a blast.

Phil Redmon shares video his father, Alvin Redmon, shot this footage with his 8mm home movie camera sometime around 1950. The first part is of the annual Hiawatha Halloween Parade. The second part (from 2:52 on) is from some horse show parade on Oregon Street in Hiawatha around the same time.
